Opening in 1993 the Egyptian themed hotel was the first pyramid shaped building in Nevada and the largest Hotel in the world to include inclinators. Inclinators were required because the interior of the building is the worlds largest atrium so the adapted elevators incline at each corner of the pyrmid following the angle.
The first shows in the Pharaoh's Dinner Theater were Winds of the Gods and Le Ice Show. The hotel lounge called Nefertiti's Lounge showcased a musical revue called American Superstars followed by a series of performances by the likes of Wayne Newton, Beehive, Loretta Holloway, and Next Movement.
As the entertainment tastes of their customers matured the Luxor brought the vocal styling of Manhattan Transfer to the Pharaoh's Dinner Theater.
IN 1998 Luxor showcased a Dick Feeney production of Imagine, A Theatrical Odyssey which included aerial expressionists who would fly just a few feet above the heads of the audience suspended only by wrist straps.
One performer of note who appeared at Luxor was Bill Acosta's Lasting Impressions. Acosta, an extremely versatile impressionist would dazzle crowds with more than 60 accurate impressions in his 75 minute show.

The $12 million production of "Hairspray" at the 1,500-seat theater in the Luxor Las Vegas Hotel. The producers of the Broadway "Hairspray" did not produce the Las Vegas version, which, like most Las Vegas-ized musicals, was much shorter and lacked an intermission. But the original creative team helped the transition, trimming and polishing the script. Harvey Fierstein and Dick Latessa, who won Tonys for their performances in the original production, acted in Las Vegas for the first few months. But sales lagged.
The current offering at Luxor is Chris Angel- Believe The show had its beginnings as a series of TV episodes for the popular TV show Mindfreak Largely filmed around and inside ( and on top of ) the Luxor. Buoyed by the limited success on cable TV, Angel was able to convince the owners of Cirque de Soleil to invest 70 million dollars on a dream inspired exploration into the imagination of Chris Angel. The show did not Open to rave reviews.
In another attempt at a staged production, Luxor brought the ever popular and timely Menopause, the Musical on site. This show is enjoyed by members of both sexes and often during the performance, men look over at their wives and smile in that Oh, NOW I understand smile.
The old adult performance show, Midnight Fantasy has been reworked and updated and now plays nightly as Fantasy It is without doubt one of the better adult show revues in town.
Sharing the more intimate venue at Luxor with Fantasy is prop comic Carrot Top. His on stage antics have been described as a mixture of Steven Wright meets Gallagher.
