Built on the grounds of the old Hacienda Hotel, Mandalay Bay Hotel features a large showroom, suitable for Broadway Stage productions and also houses The Mandalay Bay Events Center, a 12,000 seat arena. The events Center has played host to giant rock concerts, and TV Award shows.

Mandalay Bay Showroom fist showcased a touring production of the hit Broadway show Chicago. Although Vegas had played host to Broadway shows for many years this show opened the flood gates of a mostly unsuccessful fad of importing worldwide hit Broadway shows to Vegas ( Most of these shows failed and closed within a year of Opening ) Mandalay Bay faired somewhat better as Chicago was a huge success and the next show to open Mamma Mia was without doubt THE most successful Broadway transplant in the long history of entertainment in Las Vegas.

Mama Mia, a story conceived by the 70's recording group ABBA. Features their hit catalogue of chart hitting songs.
Over "20 million" people around the world cannot be wrong. They have all fallen in love with the story, the characters and the ABBA music that make MAMMA MIA! The show closed in 2008 after a VERY successful run.

Now playing at the theater is Disney's The Lion King.

Broadway phenomenon, THE LION KING, celebrated its Las Vegas premiere at Mandalay Bay Theatre May 15, 2009. It joins the seven other highly successful companies of THE LION KING currently running all over the world. Most Importantly it marks the Walt Disney companies first EVER venture in the remarkably un Disney Sin City.

Mandalay Bay's production of THE LION KING is virtually identical to the other companies seen around the globe and is staged with all of the same spectacular music, sets, and costumes that have made it a worldwide phenomenon.

There is another live entertainment venue in Mandalay Bay, The House of Blues. Featuring well known touring music artists and a fun Sunday Gospel Blues Brunch.
