Ooh La La - C'est Magnifique

With a half scale replica of the Eiffel Tower and an interior decorated like a French market place, Paris Las Vegas strives to invoke feelings of a European city.

Paris has thus far had a slightly checkered past entertainment wise. 2000 saw the musical NOTRE DAME DE PARIS opening in the Theater, on paper seemingly the perfect show for a Paris themed resort but the show was far from a smash hit.

Next up was a rock musical based on the back catalogue of QUEEN WE WILL ROCK YOU. British comedian / writer Ben Elton penned the script and he lived in Vegas for a while prior to opening in order to immerse himself in the Vegas culture and adapt the script to embrace as many comedic Vegas references as possible. The show had been a huge hit elsewhere in the world and taking on the MAMMA MIA pop musical genre should have been a sure fire hit specially as the fore mentioned Abba musical was packing them in down the strip at Mandalay bay, but alas the show didn't resonate with audiences and although the staging and Queens music where excellent it was perhaps the script that killed this show.

One would have expected the Paris to steer clear of musical theater for a while but not a bit of it, in 2007 they signed up to house a Vegas production of the massively successful Mel Brooks musical THE PRODUCERS, as if this choice wasn't the safest bet they even signed international superstar David Hasslehoff to star in the show but again against all the odds the show limped along for a year until it's closure adding to the long list of Vegas musical theater casualties.

As of 2009 the Paris theater has stood dark for over a year, a great shame as this is a first class venue in a great hotel.

Thankfully there is a far more intimate theater space that has successfully played home to comedy hypnotist Anthony Cools, there was even a late night adult show OH LA LA in the same room for a while.

It's easy to see the irony of the worlds most successful musical PHANTOM OF THE OPERA opening in the Venetian hotel when surely it should have found its home at the Paris.

VEGASLIVESHOW truly hopes that the Paris hotel finds a great show for a great room in the future as we hate to see a first class theater sat dark in the entertainment capital of the world.
